There is nothing a soldier fears more than being crippled or injured for life. Every nation knows that and all of them have produced propaganda leaflets showing injured soldiers at one time or another in an attempt to demoralize their enemies. I talked about this in an article entitled “Death and Disfigurement as a PSYOP Theme.
I first met Nick Kester last year when he invited me to try on one of his protective vests. I was struck by his sincerity and invited him to take part in the 2006 Bellmore Town Fair. I worked with Nick for two days in September at this year at the Town Fair. He is an amazing guy, kind of wacky as only a cop can be.
He is an indefatigable worker who seems to live to collect funds to protect American troops. His wife was right there with him, and was as motivated as he was. What a duo! I want to publicly thank them for their patriotism and dedication to duty. They are a rare pair and a pleasure to know.
